The 'Green Industry' has been my entire career. It started with mowing golf course greens fresh out of High School. I loved the golf course and enrolled at U-MASS and graduated with an Associates Degree in Turf Management. After maintaining turf for a few years I became restless for a more creative venture. This prompted my move into the Wholesale Nursery business where I learned everything from A-Z about plants. How to propagate from seed and graft, how to grow plants to saleable sizes, pruning, disease prevention, and how to market and sell them by the thousands. As a manager, I managed people and a multi-million dollar Distribution Center. We installed irrigation, built a warehouse, stocked and sold all turf and plant chemicals, landscape hardgoods, maintained a million dollar plant inventory, and of course serviced thousands of customers. We loaded and shipped highly fragile nursery stock and as a buyer, I visited scores of wholesale nurseries across America purchasing over $10 million in various plant products. In 1989 when I left Imperial Nurseries they were a 40+ million dollar, multi-faceted nursery business. This was great work but there was something missing.
Having my own business now allows me to create that which I can visualize, and this is what truly gives me satisfaction. I certainly have found what I love to do, which is to share my knowledge, about creating environments that bring happiness, pride and good investment to property owners. Since 1990, when I started Stone & Garden, we have worked hard to build a family of customers that are glad we connected. We have designed and installed countless gardens and stonework projects. You may want the elaborate "magazine" look, or something simple and elegant. We can give you either. Our experience, confidence and meticulous installation practices make for great results. May formula is easy. Have great ideas which fit customer parameters, accomplish what is asked at the price that was agreed, be willing to work hard and treat your employees with respect and appreciation. I, as the owner, sill love being on the job site most of the time and I guarantee our work and our attitude. We will be happy to provide referrals upon request.
On a personal level, ask me and I'll tell you about my lovely wife Susan (of 26 years), my pride and joy, Matthew (16) and many other 'gifts' the Good Lord has sent my way.
